A Warwickshire county councillor has donated a £1,000 windfall to Acorns Children’s Hospice, thanks to a prize draw run by social care software company CareWorks. Cllr Les Caborn, who serves as chair of the council’s Adult Social Care and Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee, attended the National Children and Adult Services Conference where he entered a draw to donate £1,000 to charity.

Cllr Caborn said: “I was thrilled to win the prize money and to be able to contribute to Acorns’ work on behalf of the County Council. I have been privileged enough to visit Acorns in the past to see the incredible care and support they provide to local children and their families. I am pleased that the money will help continue this work.”

CareWorks UK Managing Director Pete Houselander said: “We work very closely with children’s and adults’ care services, so we were delighted when Cllr Caborn confirmed Acorns as his chosen charity. We strongly believe that a commitment to supporting the development of the wider community is an important part of our corporate responsibility.”

Acorns cares for local children with life limiting or life threatening conditions and their families, including those who are bereaved. There is no charge to families but it costs £750 per day for each child’s care.

Acorns’ Chairman David Butcher said: “This is a great example of the local community and business supporting our work. Our costs have to be raised mainly through donations so our families are deeply grateful for support such as this.” To find out more about the work of Acorns Children’s Hospice visit: www.acorns.org.uk

CareWorks delivers software solutions to help youth offending services to serve, enable and engage people who need you. Our vision is to enable young people to be at the centre of everything you do and to give you the tools to engage them in the planning and delivery of their support.

We’re pleased that we’ve been able to support the work of the Youth Justice sector through our support and involvement of this year’s conference. CareWorks is well known in the Youth Justice sector. Since 1999, we’ve worked in a development partnership with a diverse group of about one third of the youth offending services across England and Wales. Together we have developed three generations of software solutions built by youth justice for youth justice.

The next few years will see significant changes in youth justice IT. Because of this we’ve taken the initiative to update our software solutions with new capabilities to allow our customers to more quickly and easily adapt and change to meet local needs.

We’re calling this new version CareDirector:Youth and we will start to introduce it to customers at the Annual Youth Justice Convention YJC 2012. Our team will be available at our booth 34 in the exhibition during this week if you’d like to learn a bit more about our experience both here in the UK and internationally and our plans for CareDirector.

CareDirector:Youth benefits

CareDirector is a simple, intuitive system that can be operated anytime and anywhere. It can support the introduction of new working practices to be gradually introduced at your pace, allowing your workforce to serve clients better and more efficiently.

CareDirector has been built from the ground up to specifically meet the needs of youth justice and will support the new Assessment and Planning Framework (AFIP).

Flexibility is more than a flexible system. CareWorks works in an ongoing development partnership where our YOT customers design new versions of our systems. No other youth justice supplier works this closely with customers.
