Sunderland City Council selects CareWorks for the development and implementation of a new Young People Substance Misuse case management system
CareWorks and Sunderland City Council have announced that Sunderland’s Young People’s Substance Misuse Partnership has selected CareWorks for the implementation of a substance misuse case management system for the Youth Drug and Alcohol Project.

Sunderland’s Youth Drug and Alcohol Project is a multi-agency partnership which offers specialist services for young people with drug or alcohol problems in Sunderland. The partnership includes Children's Services, Youth Offending Services, NECA (North East Council on Addictions), Education and Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust.

In order to meet national and local performance management reporting requirements set by the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse (NTA), CareWorks will provide a city wide database and case management system capable of capturing and generating accurate data on the use and misuse of drugs and alcohol by young people in contact with services in the City of Sunderland. The system will allow the Youth Drug and Alcohol Project and other identified professionals working in different locations to evidence and report on the effectiveness of service delivery in relation to young people and substance misuse issues thus ensuring that future planning and commissioning decisions are based on accurate, reliable and verifiable data.

"We have chosen CareWorks because of their experience of providing such systems that are flexible and capable of adjusting to meet changing local needs and responding to anticipated national developments”

Judith Hay, Youth Offending Service Manager

Judith Hay, Youth Offending Service Manager at Sunderland City Council, commented: “To assess the quality and effectiveness of treatment for drug misuse, the Youth Drug and Alcohol Project needs a reliable information system to allow for the collation and generation of a range of quantitative and qualitative data. We have chosen CareWorks because of their experience of providing such systems that are flexible and capable of adjusting to meet changing local needs and responding to anticipated national developments”.

Michael Dolan, Managing Director of CareWorks added: “Local Authorities are requiring more flexible solutions to meet multi-agency requirements. CareWorks web-based case management and reporting technology has been designed to accommodate bespoke changes and adapt quickly to the ever-changing requirements of the Social Care and Health modernisation agenda.
